The Document Reader lets you read course materials — PDFs, slides, and text files — with built-in AI tools that help you understand difficult content without leaving the page.
Opening a Document
- Go to your course Materials or Library.
- Click any document to open it in the reader.
- PDFs display page by page. Markdown and text files display as formatted documents.
Inline AI Actions
Select any text in the document to reveal the AI toolbar:
- Explain — get a plain-language explanation of the selected text
- Simplify — rewrite the selection in simpler, clearer language
- Define — get definitions of key terms in the selection
- Translate — translate the selection into your preferred language
- Extend — generate additional context or related information about the topic
Navigation
- Use page navigation controls at the bottom to move through a PDF
- Use Ctrl/Cmd+F to search within the document
- Click the back arrow to return to your course materials
Document Reader Features Overview
- Read Mode — clean, distraction-free view optimized for reading. Adjustable font size, line height, and column width.
- Highlight and Annotate — select any text to highlight it in yellow, green, or pink, or add a note. Your highlights are saved and private.
